AUSTRALIA – Good news as the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold is increased

The Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) was raised by the Australian government from $70,000 to $73,150, with effect from July 1, 2024. This modification guarantees enough support and protection from exploitation for skilled migrant workers while they are in Australia. The goal of Australia’s skilled immigration programme is to preserve its integrity, and this change is part of that effort. The purpose of the increase is to guarantee skilled migrant workers proper compensation and living conditions in accordance with international human rights obligations. This applied to all new nominations submitted on or after July 1, 2024. Nominations submitted prior to this date will be evaluated using the prior TSMIT amount that was in effect at the time of submission.

Start Date: 1 July 2024
New TSMIT Amount: $73,150
Purpose: To align the TSMIT with the annual Average Weekly Ordinary Times Earnings (AWOTE) figure of November 2023, reflecting a 4.5% increase.
